Credits

The Strong Arrow arrows used in this mod are Grumblepunk's Silver Arrows from his Arrow Replacement Pack 1.0 – a mod to replace the default arrows' meshes. Compare http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/9051/.

The Strong Spiddal Stick Arrow was taken from Dominick Crymonde's Spiddalstick Arrows http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/28810/.

I did not find any statements by the authors not to use their meshes which is why I have done so. However, if any of the authors does not want their mesehs to be used for this mod (or wants me at least not to include them) they may e-mail me and I will remove the meshes and textures probably replacing them with suitable alternatives.

Background Information

Playing The Elder Scrolls IV for the second time, this time as a Bosmer archer, I found it annoying not to be able to kill any opponents except for those who could not reach me at all – I was alyways much better off, just using my sword or dagger. Also, I did not like the arrows' appearance very much – especially of the stronger ones which were also too expensive in my opinion.

I decided to to some quick and dirty solution: 65536 overopwered silver arrows were added to the game, because from the stock arrows I liked the silver ones best. Still dissatisfied, I tried to replace the silver arrows with elven arrows keeping the silver quiver. It worked, but I still disliked the feathers' colors which lead to me trying to retexture them – but the result was not very good.

Therefore, I looked for arrow-mods on the internet which could be used to improve the appearance. I found cool arrows in the Ayleid Arrows mod, but it unfortunately required to request permission from the author to use the arrows, which I did not want to do. For the mods I took the meshes from, TES Nexus still stated that this would be required but also, that the user had not updated their distribution permissions since the system was implemented and at least the readme file of the Arrow Replacement Pack explicitely said: Feel free to modify and reuse these to your heart's content – and so did I.

About arrow strength and weight

The following table contains the normal Daedric Arrow for comparison.

Name Damage Weight Value
Daedric Arrow 15 0.1 35
Strong Arrow 128 0.001 16
One Strong Arrow 128 0.001 16
Strong Spiddal Stick Arrow 128 0.001 32

The data listed is subject to change. Do not rely on it too heavily.

I consider this change extreme but not that problematic because for most players it is still easier to kill opponents with an Umbra instead of using bow and arrow – I myself often switch from arrows to dagger or sword when the opponents are near. The additional strength makes shooting out of a hidden place much stronger, that is to say: useful for the first time and combined with 100 % camelion (which you can reach by enchanting your whole armor) this is very strong but on the other hand: No opponent has any chance against you if you are invisible – regardless of the arrow-type used.
